Vicky’s inspirational story resonates the personal commitment, strategic focus, and unrelenting perseverance that have made her the successful person she has become. Reared in Socorro, New Mexico, she married her high school sweetheart with whom she shares five children and eight grandchildren. They have been married for forty-one years.
After spending ten years in the private sector, Vicky began working at New Mexico Tech. She quickly became known as an all-star who could reorganize offices that were in shambles and turn them into high performing, productive administrative units. Over her twenty-year career at the university, she has been involved in administrative and financial management in Auxiliary Services, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, EMRTC, Administrative Services, and the Magdalena Ridge Observatory.
Squeezing time in between her professional and family responsibilities, Vicky earned both her A.S. and B.S. in General Studies from New Mexico Tech and her M.B.A. from Western New Mexico University. She was inducted into Delta Mu Delta, an international business honor society, in 2016. She maintains that her educational achievements were driven by her commitment to setting an example for nontraditional students since she got all her degrees while working full-time. “If you don’t give up, your only limits are self-imposed. You can accomplish anything,” she said recently.
Vicky’s creative abilities are extraordinary. She is an award-winning artist, working in oils, watercolors, and fused glass. She has exhibited at galleries in Socorro and Santa Fe and recently won a Best-of-Show award for one of her oil paintings. She is an accomplished actress having lead roles in multiple community productions and Albuquerque Little Theater. Her singing with The Prima Donnas, a local acapella group, led to professional recording opportunities. She enjoys traveling, being outdoors, going to sporting events, and spending time with family and friends.
